“Bea has the unique combination of passion and precision that is essential for a great route builder and event organizer. She cares about every piece of the puzzle — the details, difficulty, and logistics are important, but so is the history, romance, and beauty of the place.”
— Lael Wilcox

Bea, route builder for the 9th komoot Women’s Rally:

“I first rode the mountains of Montenegro five years ago on a bikepacking trip through the Balkans, and I still think about them all the time. I love the silence of Montenegro's highlands, the hospitality of its people, and the pure connection with the mountains. My partner Luca and I came back many times after that first trip, and the Montenegro Mountain Madness took life from this love. This route is one of my favorites — remote, raw, and full of surprises. Here, landscapes open up on the kind of vastness that makes you feel small in the best way.

For the 9th komoot Women's Rally, I've adapted the MMM original route to take in even more of what makes Montenegro special. The result is a 680km ride on paved roads and offroad trails, suitable for gravel and mountain bikes.

You’ll love the otherworldly landscapes of Komovi Nature Park: Big open spaces, ever-changing vistas, and the feeling of being projected into another dimension. The route's highest sections are in the highlands of Kolašin, which look like the wilds of Mongolia. We'll cross a famous bridge over the deep gorges of Tara River and ride through one of my personal favorites and a global icon: Durmitor National Park. After the mountains, we'll shift gears and ride the coastline, following the curves of the Adriatic past Budva's beaches, the island of Sveti Stefan, and the historic town of Bar.

We'll start riding from Podgorica on April 26th, and the only goal is to reach the finishers' party on May 3rd. It's not a race—just a chance to ride, connect, and share the experience of moving through this wild landscape together.

This year, we're celebrating the women in the route building community — the riders who craft the trails that bring us together. Come ride with us in Montenegro. It'll be unforgettable.”

FAQs:
🙋 Is it a race? Nope, it’s a non-competitive rally.
🙋 Does it cost money? There’s no ticket and no cost from us. It’s a free-to-enter, self-supported rally where you pay for your own travel, food, and accommodation.
🙋 How flexible is it? Very. Everyone starts and ends together in Podgorica but apart from that, you can choose your own adventure. You can divide the route in terms of distance for the days as you like. We all communicate in a WhatsApp group to exchange locations and accommodation tips.
🙋 Do people ride together? Usually! Groups often form out of different paces and preferences for daily distance and overnight stops.
🙋 Where will I stay? Wherever you like! We’ll recommend some campsites and hotels, but you’re free to stop off wherever you want to.
🙋 How much experience do I need? Check out the route and elevation gain to see if you’re comfortable with it, but you can take short cuts or detours whenever you want to. A good general level of fitness and some experience riding day rides is essential, but you don’t have to have been multi-day riding before.
🙋 What type of bike is recommended? We recommend a gravel bike or a mountain bike. The route is not suitable for road bikes as the route also follows gravel roads and unpaved sections.
🙋 What happens if I have bike issues? Rally riders are always happy to help each other out, exchange skills, and swap snacks while fixing bikes. You can also head to bike repair shops and buy replacement parts in larger towns.
🙋 Are e-bikes accepted? We won't be accepting e-bikes for this event due to various concerns.
The route in Montenegro hasn't been designed with e-bikes in mind, which means we can't be confident that there are reliable charging options along the way. Another consideration is that it isn't possible to take e-bikes on the plane, making it hard for people to bring e-bikes to Montenegro. These are just a couple of the various concerns that we have right now.
🙋 How inclusive is the rally? The komoot Women’s Rally welcomes all women, no matter their background, including trans women, as well as non-binary riders. If you identify as a woman or as non-binary and you love riding, you belong in our rally!
🙋 I have another question: Ask other questions in the comments of the komoot Collection and we’ll get back to you ASAP.
